AREAS AFFECTED: Del Norte Interior; Northern Humboldt Interior; Southern Humboldt Interior
DESCRIPTION: ...PERIODS OF RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING... .Rain, snow and small hail showers are expected to diminish tonight and Wednesday with another round of low snow, rain and small hail Wednesday night evening through early Thursday morning. * WHAT...Heavy snow snow levels falling to 1000 feet Tuesday night. Additional snow accumulations between 5 and 17 inches. * WHERE...Humboldt Interior, and Del Norte Interior. * WHEN...Until 6 AM PST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Tire chains may be necessary if travelling through mountain passes.
INSTRUCTION: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.

A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an
aircraft.
Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended
in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails
are called exhaust contrails.
Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure
moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation.
These are called aerodynamic contrails.
When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation.
The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is
because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.
