DESCRIPTION: ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 227... The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM MST this evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 227. * TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM MST this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * WINDS...West 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph today. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph on Thursday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 12 percent. * IMPACTS...Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.

They indicate that a precipitation is likely within 24 hours.
