DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Wind Advisory, northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero expected. * WHERE...In Connecticut, Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Southern Fairfield, and Southern New Haven Counties. In New York, Northern Nassau, Northwest Suffolk, Southern Nassau, and Southwest Suffolk Counties. * WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, from 9 AM this morning to midnight EST tonight. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Coldest wind chills tonight into early Sunday morning.
INSTRUCTION: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
