AREAS AFFECTED: Hettinger, ND; Stark, ND
DESCRIPTION: At 456 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 10 miles south of Richardton, or 24 miles southeast of Dickinson, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Golf ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. This severe thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of north central Hettinger and southeastern Stark Counties.
INSTRUCTION: This storm is producing large hail. SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

Precipitation in the form of water droplets is called rain.
