DESCRIPTION: ...A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM TODAY FOR EASTERN NM DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING... .Another round of critical fire weather conditions are expected today across a broader area of eastern New Mexico. Breezy westerly winds and low humidity will allow any fire that starts to spread rapidly. Stronger gusts and dry conditions return on Thursday, increasing the threat of rapid fire spread in northeast New Mexico. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING... The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Fire Weather Watch...which is in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * AREA AND TIMING...This includes the Northeast Plains (Zone 104), Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), and Central Highlands (Zone 125) for the Red Flag Warning until 7 PM MST today and for the Fire Weather Watch from 11 AM MST to 7 PM MST Thursday. * 20 FOOT WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph for today. Southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph for Thursday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values between 7 and 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Stratus clouds are similar to altostratus clouds, but form at a lower altitude and are identified by their fog-like appearance, lacking the distinguishing features of most clouds.

Stratus clouds are wider than most clouds, and their base has a smooth, uniform look which is lighter in color than a nimbostratus cloud. The presence of a stratus cloud indicates the possibility of minor precipitation, such as drizzle, but heavier precipitation does not typically arrive in the form of a stratus cloud.

Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.

Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km) and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer. These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.
